For the 2016 holiday season, Quantum was commissioned by Mall of America to create a suspended Snowflake art installation/show experience in the Mall’s new North Atrium. Dubbed the Enchanted Snowflake Experience, these twelve giant snowflakes (5 foot, 8 foot, and 11 foot) combined festive holiday spirit with incredibly artistic and elegant design.
Every 15 minutes, the majestic hanging snowflakes displayed a magical show, programmed to contemporary holiday classic songs. Quantum also provided a most stylish alternative… a simple piano accompaniment option with a live pianist playing completely in sync to the snowflake lights.
Quantum worked closely with Adirondack Studios to design three snowflake styles with different skins, creating a uniform look across the Atrium. Quantum even created and commissioned City Theatrical to build custom power supplies, LED drivers, and DMX control to the snowflakes' bright LED center core as well as LED spots in each of the snowflake arms. This allowed each snowflake to light up, change colors, and sparkle in synchronization to wonderful holiday music.
Prior to the official installation, the Quantum team coordinates a mock up to get a sense of the size, weight, and visual appeal of the snowflakes.
Prior to the installation the Quantum Creative Studios team conducts a lighting mock up to test different lighting fixtures and determine the most effective fixture.

Each snowflake is constructed with a structural internal "skeleton" with a decorative skin over top. Custom LED drivers and power supplies were created to fit within the structure without adding too much weight.
The snowflakes are carefully rigged to hang in place before connection to power and show control in order to program each snowflake as part of the larger show.
The Quantum Creative Studios team verifies the functionality of each snowflake prior to its final installation.
As each snowflake is installed, Lighting Designer Jesse Cogswell tests the lighting controls and functionality.

Once the installation was complete, the Quantum Creative Studios team went to work on programming six different shows set to musical holiday favorites.
